Anxiety can have us running in a lot of different directions.
Often when we stop to assess the anxiety we are experiencing, it’s possible that what we worry about are things out of our control.
“When I see an anxious person, I ask myself, what do they want? For if a person wasn’t wanting something outside of their own control, why would they be stricken by anxiety?” Epictetus
Another form of practice is to do the following:
Ask yourself — “Is what I am anxious about, within my power to change? Or outside of my power to change?”
Then ask yourself — “What is the very next best step I can take?”
The next step you take is often dictated by whether or not you have power to change the thing you are anxious about.
For myself the next best step is to practice my pain and peace cycle, which helps emotionally regulate my anxiety, connect to my truth, and practice next best steps for the anxious circumstance I am facing.
That process is my next best step.
